What do we add to our Park?
Picnic tables – where we can meet up, and sit at them, while children run up and down the dip (especially as Tesco’s is only round the corner!)
Another opportunity for unstructured play for our children, with some ‘bumps’ for them to run over
An ephemeral pond to encourage invertebrates and taller damp-liking plants. This area could do with something, like old logs (good for Stag Beetles) to delimit it, and save any vehicles or push chairs from wandering into it and being bogged down. It’s one the area which is underlaid by the original London Clay, but people expect it to be firm under foot as it’s near the edge.
Another popular idea is of putting a path, with a surface that pushchairs and cyclists can use, around the perimeter – or at least through the muddier portion from Homesdale road to the entrance by the nursery. Over 51% of the survey respondents said they used our park as a pleasant cut-through or diversion, so this should improve the usage and accessibility.
It might be possible, if the Parks people agree, to put the case for a grant, for a wooden zip wire at one end of dip (not the sledging end)… surely mums and dads would enjoy this as well as the kids! | The broken railing at the Homesdale entrance looks rather shabby, so it is thought that it can be replaced with some boxes made from railway sleepers: |
INITIAL ACTION PLAN (Consultation)
- Consult with interested parties to see how we can accommodate their needs as long as they are within the vision of the friends.
- Liaise regularly with council officers to see how we can help each other reach each other’s goals
- Encourage our lightly-constructed team who walk park frequently to remove rubbish or report rubbish to council
- Set up a loosely or tightly constructed team who are willing to help with working parties around the park
- Work under the supervision of the professional officers of the London Borough of Bromley (LBB),and anyone else who is interested, to monitor and improve the park’s wildlife habitats, where they are compatible with Our Vision, including implementing most of the recommendations of the biodiversity report.
- To promote the use of the park as a place for quiet, informal enjoyment, recreation and study
- To assist in providing an educational experience for the general public in the history and natural history of the park and local area.
- Maintaining a sound financial base and seeking other funding or donations to further activities which meet the above aims and objectives.
